Day 2 – into the Golfete

We start bright and early, moving out of Lago Izabal, past the old Castillo de San Felipe we made good distance over five hours, through the main mooring docks in the Rio Dulce and 16kms under our belts, reaching the entrance to the Golfete and camping down for the night on the banks of the river.

Day 3 – the Golfete and backwaters

Day 3 – the Golfete and backwaters

We start at dawn for the push across the Golfete, over 25kms for us today. The Golfete is a huge expanse of water and it is a grind! We can also kayak some incredible backwaters in the Biotopo aswell, and reach our goal at the end of the day in Finca Tatin after 7 hours in the saddle.

Day 4 – the Caribbean

Day 4 – the Caribbean

The final push to the Caribbean, though first an explore down a side river which takes us deep into the wilds! Back onto the Rio Dulce, the final kms ahead of us, and luckily, so is a slow-moving current, winding us out into the Caribbean, enjoying the awe-inspiring high-sided walls of the canyons before reaching our camping ground in the afternoon on the mouth of the Rio Dulce.
