Plan Arveja China (green beans o “mange-tous”) was started in Santa María, Guatemala in December 2012. We rent land, sow and harvest green beans, whilst also providing employment to local fathers of the school. The crop should yield enough to pay back the initial investment, pay for local labour, invest in the next crop and more importantly, provide income that can be reinvested into the school, for local salaries, materials etc. This Plan is currently on a two-year trial and will be trialled with different vegetables in Itzapa aswell.
