Looking ahead to 2014: employing 7 local teachers (1 in primary and 6 in secondary) teaching over 160 children, classroom construction, Plan Café and other sustainable plans and of course, the daily food and fruit program!

Amazing advances this year in Phomolo's 1st Grade - reading and writing with few mistakes and their maths is amazing!
Grades 4 and 6 learn together in the same classroom - hopefully in 2014 we can finish constructing new classrooms to allow each grade to have their own.

After 3 three years, Plan Café is nearing its first harvest. Students from our colegio work the land in preparation.
69 students from nine rural communities attend the Phoenix secondary school and college in San Rafael - these are: San Rafael, Barbasco, La Pintada, San Isidro, Boca del Monte, El Bonete, Miramar, Pueblo Viejo and Copan Ruinas. Some walk over an hour just to attend.
As part of the curriculum in our secondary school and college, 20 of the students spent time on work experience in various businesses and organisations in and around Copán. The bosses said they were the hardest working students they had ever worked with; some even offered jobs once they graduate in 2014.
Great advances with the lower grades so far this year, especially in maths.
Food and fruit programs beginning to be re-introduced.
Every year Phomolo meets a new group of first graders and every year is impressed by them. This bunch is no different. They’re all so eager. You know you have something special on your hands when a 1st grader asks you for more homework.
On 11 May we celebrated Mother’s day at our school. Our secondary school students were in charge of organising the event and they put together a really fun program of song and dance and some drama and comedy. Phoenix and the staff provided refreshments. March 2013
San Rafael in Honduras is off to a great start for 2013. Carolina, Erika and Phomolo are working hard to cover all grades of Primary school and the secondary is continuing with a new grade being added each year.
With help from the local community a new classroom is being built to give more space and a better teaching area.
