Do a challenge

The Cerani Pass in Perú

If you fancy taking on a challenge for your favourite project then you are in the right place! Whatever you fancy, we have it! Kayaking, hiking, biking, climbing a volcano or cllimbing eight, herding Lamas (well you can hope!) in one country or crossing into two. I promise we can find something to meet your challenge needs. Just pop to our Charity Challenge page and see which one you want to sign up for.

If you are looking for something closer to home there are many fund runs, 10ks, half marathons, marathons, triatholons, swimming challenges, half iron, full iron and more events around the world so have a look what is close to you.

Once you have decided what you want to do then the easiest way to raise money is set up a fundraising page by following the simple tips below. If you want to run an event to raise money then get in touch and we will send you your events pack.

If you need some more help or to just tell me about your fantastic fundraising idea then please email me and tell me all about your plans!!

STEP ONE: Make the website

Just by clicking here and sign up by clicking on ‘make my page’. This link takes you directly to our BT Mydonate pages.

STEP TWO: Fill your page
So, now you have your page you need to fill it with a few words about what you are doing. Now, however passionate you are about the projects those donating to you will be more interested in your challenge than the actual project as it is you they love! So talk 70% about the challenge and 30% about the project. Put a nice picture of you and the kids on there and away you go!!! So, in summary, try and include the following:

  • what the challenge is – each of the days events, how many days, how high you are climbing, how far you are walking etc
  • what training you are doing for the challenge
  • the projects and what your work is

STEP THREE: Sending out the link

Send your link to everybody you know!! Send everyone an individual email as you are asking these people to part with their hard earned cash so I think they deserve an idividual email for that! Include in the email a bit more information about the challenge and why it is so important to you that people sponsor you.

STEP FOUR: Who to send it to?

I am sure you know lots of people who would love to sponsor you so make sure you don’t forget anyone! The first people you should email are those close to you. Close family and friends. If they donate first then people will see you are serious and want to support you too!

If people don’t give first time it may be because they forgot or put it to the bottom of their ‘to do’ list! So, once you have emailed them the first time, wait two or three weeks and email again. Send some more information about the project and about your training and ask again for donations. Keep doing this every few weeks until you do the challenge!

If there are still people who haven’t donated just before you leave for the challenge send another email saying that you are leaving in a few hours and would them to donate. Again, when you get back do the same telling them about the challenge and how hard it was but worth it for the donations.

Don’t be afraid to ask everyone for money. You are here doing fantastic work and working really hard for such an amazing cause. So tell people about it, trust me, they will be impressed and they will be happy to support you! Who wouldn’t!

STEP FIVE: Social Networks

Once you have emailed everyone and you have lots of donations, keep people updated! Your friends and family have been very generous and deserve to hear that you are working hard for their money.

So set up ‘Event pages’ on your social networking sites and keep people up to date with training, the projects and any problems you are having – cramp, injury etc.

Another place you could look for fundraising is your local Rotary club. They often support individuals who are fundraising for volunteering that they are doing. To find your local Rotary club go to www.rotary.org and send your local branch a letter telling them what you are/will be doing on the project and why the work is so good.

STEP SIX: Thanks very much

You friends and family want to know where their money went and if it was worth it, so tell them!!! Send out a thank you email to everyone who donated, tell them how the challenge went, attach some photos and tell them what Phoenix are going to spend their hard earned cash on!!

And that’s it…six easy steps to fundraising success…now all you have to do is the actual challenge. So what are you waiting for??
