In 2013 we will hand out over 250,000 pieces of fruit and 250,000 hot meals to 1003 children across Latin America.
Why? Because these children are hungry and malnourished and they may not receive any food. We know education is the key to development but without food, the children cannot concentrate in school and they simply may not survive.
Each day, each child received a nutritious hot meal and a delicious piece of fruit when they come to school, enough food to fill their bellies and provide the right amount of nutrition for them to grow. These cost just £30 or $50 per child (8p or 13¢ per day) for the year and the benefits can be seen in every child. Take a look at Angel for example.
In 2013 we want every child to go home from school full, bouncing about telling their parents about what they did at school, what they drew, what they learnt, not thinking about the terrible hunger they feel. Wouldn’t that be amazing.
