As the holiday season draws closer it is typically a time to reflect and be thankful. A proud mother who has received support from Phoenix wants to tell her story; about how her children will be amazing thanks to investment in them, by their mother, by Phoenix and by you.

“My name is Julia Maria and I live in Santa Maria de Jesus, Guatemala.
I live with my husband and two daughters, Fernanda and Cristina and my son Juan. My husband and I work hard but sadly you can’t earn much money. Since the Phoenix project started it has been a big help for my family, especially my kids, because they receive food, fruit and go to school everyday, which is a good benefit for their education and health.
My kids now go to local school in the morning and in the afternoon they attend the Phoenix school, which is an excellent benefit for their education. When my kids are not in the School I send them to work in the fields as they need to bring wood for the stove because this is what our parents showed us when we were kids.
When they are in school they are so happy and excited to study and learn more. My husband and I can’t read or write and we have had problems with our income all our lives but the children know they can change that.
I have watched as my children have changed over the years with pride in my heart. They grew tall, fat and confident and started thinking about what job they wanted to do. Fernanda wants to be a teacher because she understands the necessity of the woman to give the children a better future.
Cindy wants to follow her sister but it depends on our income. With the help of Phoenix, Juan is studying in the primary school, which is very important, as his dream is to be a doctor.
We have worked hard all our lives to ensure we have provided for our children. The Phoenix Projects and their food program have helped us do that. I have two beautiful young women and my son is going to be just the same.
Thank you for giving my children so much, for helping them, my husband and I are very grateful to you. My children are good people because Phoenix helped them.”
Fernanda, Cristina and Juan are lucky to have donors, someone who cared enough to give them what is desperately needed, a chance. We want every child to be lucky this Christmas.
So here is our idea. Please pledge £30, $50 or whatever you can afford today. Then, on Christmas Day, when you set your table to eat Christmas dinner, how about you set an extra place, a place for your extra dinner guest, the child you have saved. But, here is the extra special part; £30/$50 feeds a child for a year so you can leave their place set until next Christmas. Thank you.
