“If I can combine a curry, some beers, and help the project, it sounds like a perfect night out!” – Nick Barker for Phoenix Nicaragua

A simple fundraising idea to support the children and most importantly their education; just add fundraising to an already planned night out!

We all get together for a meal in a restaurant every now and then, whether to wind down at the end of the week, celebrate a birthday or another special event or just meet up with friends.

So why not add a fundraising element to it?

The idea is to eat and drink and enjoy a normal night out and when the bill arrives, you all match it. The proceeds will go towards paying for a month’s salary of one of our 40 local teachers in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Perú, which on average is $250 (£175).

Or invite friends and family round for a meal, charge per head or let them pay a price for how much they enjoyed the meal!! A simple idea, a low fundraising target and it can be done anytime, anyplace with anyone.

All you have to remember to do is collect the money and donate on the relevant country MyDonate links on this website. Simple.

1) Ten year anniversary – this November celebrates the ten year anniversary of The Phoenix Projects, which started in Guatemala and then moved into Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Peru. In that time, we’ve probably gone through 3 million pieces of fruit (and pencil sharpeners!)

2) Split with GVI – it has been decided that Phoenix will continue forward with its community programs and self-sustainable plans without GVI. We would like to take this opportunity to thank GVI for the past ten years working with us on this piece of history

3) Fly the Phoenix – Phoenix has set up its own charity, dedicated to raising funds for The Phoenix Projects to continue our daily food and fruit programs, local teachers´ salaries and investing in our sustainable plans; we will be sending you lots of information about your projects and how you can keep them going so keep an eye on us on Facebook – The Phoenix Projects – and in your inbox

4) Sustainability is what you need – the communities we work in love the projects and are excited to get more involved. Through our income generating, sustainable plans we will eventually hand the projects over to the communities. You will be hearing more about Plan Moo, Arbeja China, Macadamia, Café and Cuy soon

5) Phoenix Guatemala – after ten years of volunteer and staff support Itzapa is now a legal school and Santa Maria will soon be too. We now pay local national teachers and the focus is now on Plan Moo and Macadamia in Itzapa and Plan Arbeja China (green-beans) in Santa Maria; our sustainable plans in Guatemala to eventually cover costs within the next ten years.

6) Phoenix Honduras – our secondary school still continues in San Rafael and we hope to increase this to college in 2013, by paying for our own teachers there too. We will continue with the food and fruit programs whilst putting our efforts into Plan Café and Plan Macadamia for sustainable funding.

7) Phoenix Nicaragua – Legalization is underway for our schools in both La Thompson and Alexis Argüello. We plan to begin Plan Moo in the nature reserve of Miraflor just outside of Esteli. From the sale of milk and cheese, the participants in the scheme will be provided with a long term sustainable income, while the school and project will secure funding for the teachers salaries and food programs over the next few years.

The Phoenix Projects believe that education, as well as daily food, are basic human rights and are creating sustainable 25-year cycle educational community programs to combat the imbalances of these rights, funded by Charity Challenges.

With the education we provide and the better job opportunities that come with this, it is hoped the community over time will be able to afford the education for their own children, thus The Phoenix Projects become sustainable.
