Guatemala – normal school; 24th-31st Semana Santa. We welcomed ex-Perú volunteer, Matt Brown, to work with us for three weeks. First exams in Itzapa completed with Moli completing 210 individual oral English exams – 54 with 100% – and dance exams held for the first time.


Honduras – normal school in both primary and secondary; Father’s Day on 19th; 24th-31st Semana Santa. The new classroom is almost complete, just need a floor now!


Nicaragua – normal school; Plan Identidad on 1st welcomed more parents in and our new structured physical education programs started; birthdays 21st; trips and football 22nd; 5th Anniversary of La Thompson 24th (celebrated in April!); 24th-31st Semana Santa. Attendance has been in the high 80% all month.


Ecuador – normal school; Day of the Woman celebrated. 24th-31st Semana Santa and Fanesca. First crop of Plan Ironwoman a success.



Perú – New school year starts on 4th; 24th-31st Semana Santa. 54 children are officially in Maldonado. We will concentrate on Maldonado this year with the government providing food in Triunfo.

Charity Challenges

Matt Brown climbed Volcano Acatenango (3976m), Guatemala on 9th March to raise funds for our projects in Guatemala


Fly The Phoenix Fundraising events

4th – Rachel Besbrode, ex-Phoenix staff on and off since 2007 (!) and now teacher, is holding a Mother’s Day fundraiser at Canonbury Primary School, London, UK.


10th – UK Mothering Sunday – tell your Mum how much she means to her with a gift to our projects in her name

13th – Global Giving bonus Day – they match every donation made today by US donors with another 30% of the donation so donate here on 13 March so we can receive more than just your generous donation.

End-March – Victoria Allison ex-volunteer and staff (Nicaragua and Ecuador) is holding a fundraising Trivia Night in Melbourne, Australia as well as running a 15km sponsored run.
