Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The Phoenix Projects working in Latin America.
Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd May 2027
This challenge involves a day warm-up hike before taking on the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil, at 3,414 feet (1,038m). We aim to do a lot in a couple of days with one aim in mind – to celebrate Phoenix’s 25th Anniversary!
The challenge is flexible so if you can only arrive on the Friday night for the Carrauntoohil hike and celebration on Saturday that is fine. It also gives participants a chance to spend more time exploring Ireland before and after.
In May, the temperatures range from 9 to 15 degrees Celsius (48 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit). While it can be a pleasant time to hike with longer daylight hours, Irish weather can be unpredictable, and it’s important to be prepared for rain and cool temperatures.
We will plant trees to help cover your carbon footprint for the challenge, including inbound and outbound flights.
If you are interested in joining us or need more information please do email us on info@thephoenixprojects.org
Thursday
Meet in Killarney in southwest Ireland and a welcome dinner. There are trains and busses from Cork and Dublin. Hotel.

Friday
A 10 mile/14km day hike around Lough Leane and Muckross Lake taking in Torc waterfall before heading back to Killarney and dinner. Hotel.
Saturday
Early start as we take on Ireland’s highest mountain Carrauntoohil at 3,414 feet/1,038m and another 8 miles/12km (6-8 hrs) under our belts before heading back to Killarney for a celebration dinner. Hotel.

Sunday
Transport back home or continue exploring…
All mid-range accommodation, meals and the first round each evening at dinner are included as well as guides and transport for the Carrauntoohil hike. You will need to sort your own transport to and from Killarney at the beginning and the end of the challenge.
Whilst it is a celebration it is also a fundraiser for Phoenix so we do ask you to fund raise for the projects (no minimum, just what you can) and we will supply you with your own fundraising page to send to family, friends and work colleagues to drum up interest.
The current budget for the three days is around €475/£410/$550 per person for shared accommodation (two to a room) and €620/£535/$720 for a single room though this will be confirmed nearer the time. Obviously it will be less if you come out on the Friday.
This is the projected cost per person and can either be paid by you as you go on the ground or send the total to us beforehand to cover these costs.
