Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The Phoenix Projects working in Latin America.
May 2027 (actual dates TBC)
NB. Please note the following information is still a work in progress. Further updates will be made once confirmation of the challenge and the itinerary has been made. Last edited: 9/06/25
This challenge involves a total trekking distance of over 100 miles (160km) during the week along the majority of the Kerry Way in southwest Ireland and taking on the highest mountain Carrauntoohil at 3,414 feet (1,038m). You will have to carry personal equipment for each day hike with other equipment transported between villages where we will stay each night.
In May, the temperatures range from 9 to 15 degrees Celsius (48 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit). While it can be a pleasant time to hike with longer daylight hours, Irish weather can be unpredictable, and it’s important to be prepared for rain and cool temperatures
We will plant trees to help cover your carbon footprint for the challenge, including inbound and outbound flights.
If you are interested in joining us or need more information please do email us on info@thephoenixprojects.org

A very rough budget for everything, including B&Bs, food and drink is around £800 ($1050). If you decide to camp it will be less. Equipment can be transported between villages so you won’t have to carry too much gear during the day.
Due to the nature of this challenge the payment structure will be different. As we will be using multiple accommodations, pubs and restaurants, payments will be made individually by you on the ground (rather than a fixed price at the start like for our challenges in Latin America).
We will provide the names of the villages where we aim to stay each night (Killarney first and last night) so you can book B&Bs or campsites in advance. Likewise, when we stop for meals each person will pay for their consumption. This way you have more choice on where you stay and what you eat and drink – the celebration meal at the end will be on us!
